NHS Heroes Support Hub.
We were contacted by a friend who had been asked to pull together a mini supermarket for the NHS staff of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The concept was to create a place where the NHS staff of Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley Hospital could come and not have to queue to get some essential supplies for a meal or two before or after their long shift. He asked if we could volunteer our time to help bring this to fruition. We said yes straight away and a team of 6 eager volunteers was created.
The following 3 weeks consisted of zoom meetings, getting the keys to a 5800sq foot warehouse, a website created, calls to suppliers, gathering donations and stocking the shelves.
We opened the doors on the 23rd April 2020 and the project was greatly received. There were radio interviews, newspaper articles and social media posts to follow which then got the momentum going.
